The Festive Period

The Christmas period is now upon us, as people start to open the first few windows of their advent calendars and shops across the nation get busier and busier as people head out for Christmas presents and food in increasing numbers. It’s a time of year that most of us welcome, not least for that bit of time away from work that comes with Christmas and New Year.

So before the festive period really kicks in, it can be a good idea to get in touch with tenants to sort out what’s happening throughout late December and early January. Contacting them in advance can go a long way to ensuring there’s no hold ups and serious problems at what should be one of the more relaxing times of year.

Check in
It can be a good idea to simply check in with all your tenants and see what needs to be done before that short time when there’s no one around. It allows you the chance to let people know what times you won’t be available, as well as scheduling in any pressing maintenance work that needs done over the next few weeks to make up for the lost week at the end of December.

Email in advance
While you might know when your office is closed, and you may have displayed this on your website, chances are it’s not something tenants have checked up on, or even thought about, so it can be a good idea to get in touch with them in advance just to let everyone know what’s going on. Get in touch with your tenants with a simple group email, and tell them when you’ll be closed, when you reopen and what to do if they have any issues that can’t wait until the office is fully functional again.

Emergency contact
One simple reality of the winter season is that there will be problems brought on by the cold, and this doesn’t stop for Christmas. Over the festive week, there’s always the chance that someone in your rented homes will be hit by a broken down boiler, malfunctioning heating or a burst pipe. None of these are problems that can wait, so you need to ensure someone is always on call as an emergency contact. It’s also a good idea to make sure all tenants have an emergency number, just in case something should go wrong in their homes.
